To me, they look like they could possibly be an art and literature magazine, praising the Soviet Union’s culture. They are mainly made up from text but have stunning prints of paintings and illustrations. For the years that I have had them I have always wanted to do something with the imagery in these magazines. I have had a fascination with them for so long. They date from 1970 to 1972 and although I cant understand the text I feel like I am getting an inside into life of the people who lived under a communist regime. This part of history particularly interests me yet I still have no real grasp on it as I have never experienced it.
This essentially sums up the prints I have created; the imagery is taken out of context and there is no point of reference. You may not know what the images are telling you, yet there remains something about the aesthetic which draws you in.
THESE REVISION ARTS GUYS KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING, JUST SAYIN’.
